Located on a gently sloping, rural site with extensive views of the Tamar River, Tasmania, this private residence is designed around the client's family life. The plan is orientated with views to the South and West, whilst capturing light and warmth from the Sun to the North. The budget was modest and it was essential that the plan made use of every opportunity for space. The ground floor spaces 'unfold' on warmer days, completely inverting the relationship of the internal spaces with the external environment. Totally 'off grid' and relying on an array of solar collectors for hot water, heating and power, this project aims to marry self sufficiency with contemporary living.
