St Mary’s Residence

This residence is located in St Mary’s East coast of Tasmania. The design was developed as part of a bid to design and construct a new residence for the Department of Police and Emergency Management (DPEM) to house a police officer and family.
The narrow site is East facing on a gentle slope, overlooking a creek. We sought to maximise the environmental conditions capturing sun and light in both the morning and evening. A front courtyard garden acts as a ‘buffer’ between the house and the street, providing a greater sense of privacy than traditional stock housing. The concept maximises the potential use for all of the site.
